My Telecaster Hotrod Redo – Ch 1

Welcome friends to the fun part.

I learned to play the guitar many years ago and for years I have done the majority of my own maintenance and Repair. It should be no surprise that I decided to open a guitar setup and repair shop.

One of the ways I learned how to maintain my own guitars was by reading books and magazine articles. My own ability grew quickly when I began to take my own guitars apart in order to diagnose verious problems and perform needed repairs. A great feature about this intrument is that most guitars, especially electric guitars are put toether with easily accessible screws, nuts and bolts. Making a guitar requires some fairly complex tools and machinary, but taking one apart and repairing it can be done with a small set of tools.

In the next few chapters of this series I am going to show you how to disassemble a telecaster guitar and put it back together. Along the way I will replace and upgrade some of the components with better quality parts in an effort to “hotrod’ the guitar.

Definition: Hotrod From Dictionary.com
verb (used with object)
hot-rodded, hot-rodding
1. to drive (a vehicle) very fast.
2. to adapt (a vehicle or its engine) for increased speed.

So to hot-rod a guitar is to adapt a guitar for increased speed…. and I would add make it cooler, louder and make it the guitar you want to play to impress others.

So stay tuned.

I have been playing guitar, piano and trumpet since I was in middle school and it is my life's passion. Guitar repair is my daytime occupation and I am down with anything related to music. Post Covid I spend my time fixing and tinkering with musical instruments of all sorts, playing music solo and in a trio and I am dedicated to helping others become better at whatever kind of music they wish to create.
